Symmetrix Virtual Provisioning
Symmetrix Virtual Provisioning
Symmetrix Virtual Provisioning, based on what the industry calls “thin provisioning,” is the ability to present an application with more capacity than is physically allocated to it in the storage array. The physical storage is then allocated to the application “on demand” as it is needed from a shared pool of capacity.
Symmetrix Virtual Provisioning provides the following benefits:
Simplified storage management that enables you to provision independently of physical storage and reduce the re-provisioning steps required to support capacity growth. In addition, automated wide striping simplifies data layout, so you can achieve similar or potentially better performance with less planning and labor.
Better performance by wide striping data across drives.
Higher capacity utilization with the reduction of allocated but unused storage, which gives you greater power efficiency.
